Harold Soper oral history, 1964-1965.

In this interview, Mr. Soper discusses his personal history and association with GLF and Agway. Topics include: his farm operation from approximately 1920 until 1964, especially his record keeping and the production and marketing of cabbage, beets, and beef cattle; sources of information about farming; his involvement with farm organizations; his observations on agricultural credit; and his observations as a director of GLF and Agway, especially the formation of Curtice-Burns, Inc. and Pro-Fac Cooperative, Inc., and the merger of GLF and the Eastern States Farmers Exchange to form Agway.

Founded in Syracuse, N.Y. in 1921 as a business run by farmers for their benefit. A. Leal Bibbins built the Syracuse seeds division into one of the largest seed businesses in the country. He then moved to Buffalo as head of the mills division. Bibbins retired in 1947, and in 1964 the Cooperative GLF Exchange and the Eastern States Farmers Exchange merged to form Agway, Inc.
